Today began with removing some of the large rocks from the tumble section of the wall. It was left until now, because it may be evidence of another wall going into the cashel. The earth on both sides was still uneven, so we also worked on …..To read more click here

Today was a very busy morning while excavating at Caherconnell. We continued to trowel the layer from the previous day and immediately struck gold. Almost as soon as we started digging, both Will and Ray found wet stones that were used for sharpening objects. Furthermore, we also found more pieces of a quernstone which…..To read more click here

Today was an exciting day at the dig, although it began in a less than exciting manner. We arrived at 9:00, per usual, and the sky was still gray with clouds. As we made our way up to the site, it was obvious that a weekend of rest had replenished our energies, as people were moving with a speed and pep that we had lacked towards the end of the previous week…..To read more click here

Today the crew came back to the site to find a part of the south wall had been removed. The area denoted as section 24 was deemed and it was feared it may fall. With its removal the crew could continue trowelling the area Greta described as section 23. Our curiosity was high as we were… To read more click here

Today Will and I got to set up the level to use to measure the Temporary Base Measurement and subsequently get a height measurement for the dig area. I think that it’s neat that with all of our measurements we will be able to put each artifact in it’s exact place in space. After that we removed a layer of rocks from level 22 which sat right beneath the surface. When we finished….. To read more click here

It’s great to be back at Caherconnell! I had a great time excavating here last year and am so happy to be back again this year! This year we are excavating a trench immediately next to the entrance where we worked last year. This trench is located along the southeast wall of the cashel. Yesterday we de-sodded and began removing the topsoil, which we finished removing today just after lunch. To read more click here
