School Diaries – 2010August 21, 2010 – Tour of the Burren – courtesy Claire Connolly Today we got to have our first day off after working from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for five days in a row. Now that is the normal workday for most adults on earth but excavating is unlike any other job I have ever had. After working for five days in a row I am near certain I can assume everyone on the team was suffering from sleep deprivation, sore muscles and maybe a few too many pints. Why does it never seem to amont to much? And then as if by some miracle, you are given the answer to these questions in a single rewarding moment. Still looking forward to the adventure of going out onto the dig site and actually realizing the progress that is about to happen. Today is a rock moving and troweling day. We’re hoping to see if the gravel in one area is uniform across a larger area, as well as see if any structure appears when we uncover the next layer of our stratigraphy. 17 August 2010 – courtesy of Sarah Bogart Wonderful day today! We all woke up quite early, as Susan didn’t realise we had to use a key to unlock the door to our room. But that was quite all right, as there was sun this morning!
